Best eSIM for multi-island Caribbean travel
The Caribbean has five regional eSIM packs from five different providers, with country counts ranging from 13 to 29. The packs look interchangeable on a price page; they are not. Roamless Caribbean excludes Puerto Rico. aloSIM Caribbean excludes the French West Indies (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Barthélemy) — a separate aloSIM pack covers those. Cuba is excluded from every single regional pack. This guide maps actual coverage and tells you which pack wins for which itinerary — cruise, single-resort, multi-island, or French-territory trips.

Caribbean pack coverage varies more than in any other region we cover. Before buying, verify every island on your itinerary against the supported list of the pack you intend to buy. Yesim covers 13 islands; aloSIM 20; Airalo and Roamless 26 each; Saily 29. Three exclusions trap travellers: (1) Roamless Caribbean excludes Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands — only in Roamless Global; (2) aloSIM Caribbean excludes Martinique, Guadeloupe and Saint Barthélemy — covered by a separate aloSIM French West Indies pack; (3) Cuba is excluded from all five regional packs — only Airalo sells a single-country Cuba eSIM. The rest of this page assumes a multi-island trip.
Run the numbers on your trip
Caribbean single-country per-GB rates are structurally higher than European or North American norms because populations are small and operator competition is limited. Bahamas, Barbados, Aruba and BVI sit at the high end on the smallest tier; Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands are notably cheaper because they piggyback on US carrier networks; most other islands sit mid-range. A regional pack typically wins clearly on multi-island or cruise itineraries (3+ ports) and loses on single-resort stays of a week or less. The calculator below applies your specific islands.
Why a regional pack — and why not always
A regional pack means one eSIM that works across multiple islands without switching profiles or paying out-of-zone rates. The headline appeal is convenience: install once, use everywhere your pack covers. The Caribbean-specific catch is twofold — coverage varies more between packs than in any region we cover (Puerto Rico, the French West Indies and Cuba are each excluded by at least one pack), and single-country per-GB rates are structurally high because island populations are small and operator competition is limited. On a multi-island or cruise itinerary the pack usually wins, but the economics still depend on exactly which islands you touch.
Five regional packs compared
The strict-Caribbean pack. Covers 20 countries including Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic and the main English-Caribbean tourist islands.
- What is covered: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, BVI, Cayman, Curaçao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, US Virgin Islands.
- Critical exclusion: The French West Indies — Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Barthélemy — are NOT in this pack. aloSIM sells a separate "French West Indies" pack at notably higher per-GB rates than the main Caribbean pack. If your trip includes a French island, this pack alone is not enough.
- Tier structure: Data-based, from 1GB/7 days to 10GB/30 days. Per-GB drops sharply at 10GB tier.
- Networks: Cable & Wireless (LIME), Claro, Liberty PR, Setar, BTC, UTS — the dominant carriers across the region.
The broadest of the data-based packs. Covers 26 Caribbean countries including the French West Indies and most cruise ports.
- Includes: The French West Indies (Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Barthélemy), Puerto Rico, all major English-Caribbean and Dutch-Caribbean islands.
- Tier structure: Wide ladder — 1GB/3 days at the bottom, 10GB/30 days at the top. The 3-day tiers are useful for short cruise legs; the 30-day tiers fit longer multi-island trips.
- Naming note: Airalo's Caribbean Islands pack is the canonical regional product on airalo.com. Sub-products labelled "Island Hopper" or "Discover" on some retail surfaces are different SKUs — always verify which one you are buying.
- Networks: Routes through Digicel and Flow (Cable & Wireless) in most islands, BTC in the Bahamas, Claro on several others.
The widest country count of any Caribbean pack. Covers 29 countries including Bermuda and the French West Indies.
- Includes: All major Caribbean islands plus Bermuda (which is geographically Atlantic but classified here by Saily). Dominican Republic, Haiti, French West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago all present.
- Tier structure: 1GB/7 days, then 3/5/10GB at 30 days. Best per-GB on the 10GB tier — tied with Roamless for the lowest rate among data-tier packs.
- Anomaly to note: The 1GB/7-days tier covers 28 countries; the 3GB+ tiers cover 29. This is a minor structural quirk on Saily's product page — not usually material, but verify the small tier list if your trip includes a border-case island.
- From NordVPN parent company: Built-in ad blocker and web protection inside the Saily app — worth nothing if you do not use them; not a roaming or speed advantage.
Wide coverage of the English-Caribbean and French West Indies, but with a major hole. 26 countries — same count as Airalo, but different list.
- Critical exclusion: Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands are NOT in this pack. They are only in Roamless Global. For any cruise or itinerary that starts or stops in San Juan, Roamless Caribbean is the wrong product — use Roamless Global instead.
- What is covered: The full French West Indies, all major English-Caribbean islands, the Dutch islands (Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, Sint Maarten), Haiti, BVI.
- Tier structure: Data-based, 1–10GB at 30 days. Best per-GB on 10GB tier — tied with Saily for the lowest rate among data-tier packs.
- Pay-as-you-go flexibility: Roamless's FLEX model (no expiry credits) is available globally but the Caribbean dedicated pack is FIX-only (30-day prepaid).
The smallest country count and a structurally different model. Yesim's Caribbean pack is unlimited-only at the short-duration tier and data-tier at longer durations.
- What is covered (13 islands): Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Curaçao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Martinique, Puerto Rico, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
- What is NOT covered (vs Saily 29): Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, BVI, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Martin (French), Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos.
- Unlimited tier reality: Yesim's 1-day unlimited plan has a daily fair-use cap with possible throttling — "unlimited" describes the volume budget, not unthrottled speed.
- Often better alternative: Yesim Global Plus 5GB/30d (146 countries) frequently beats Yesim's dedicated Caribbean pack on price and coverage. Worth a price-check against any dedicated Caribbean plan.
The fine print no provider advertises
For 5+ hours of HD streaming per day or sustained hotspot use, a large fixed-data plan (10GB+) typically delivers a more reliable experience than any "unlimited" Caribbean plan, because none of the unlimited products in this region are actually unthrottled past the fair-use threshold (daily for both Yesim and Airalo). The 10GB/30-day tier on Saily, Roamless or aloSIM is the most predictable choice for heavy use across multiple islands.
If you stream video on the move or work from cafés, the daily throttle ceiling matters more than the unlimited label. Read provider terms before purchase — fair-use thresholds are not always disclosed upfront.
Island coverage — what is actually included by each pack
The exclusion math, in one line: Yesim 13 islands, aloSIM 20, Airalo 26, Roamless 26, Saily 29. Yesim has the narrowest scope. aloSIM excludes the French West Indies. Roamless excludes Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. None covers Cuba. For a typical English-Caribbean cruise (Miami→Jamaica→Cayman→Bahamas), any of the five fixed packs works. For a multi-island trip that mixes English and French islands, aloSIM Caribbean alone is insufficient. For any itinerary touching San Juan, do not buy Roamless Caribbean.
Common Caribbean itineraries — what to pick
7-day cruise hitting 3–4 English-speaking ports plus a sea day or two. Any of the five fixed packs covers the route, but cruise day-stops rarely use more than 1–2 GB total. Best fit: Airalo 3GB/7-days ($21) or aloSIM 3GB/30-days ($20) for the lower per-GB. The 1GB/3-day Airalo tier ($8) is enough for a 2-port itinerary if you only need messaging and maps. Cruise ships' own Wi-Fi is overpriced ($15–25/day) and slow — the eSIM activates as soon as you dock and your phone catches a port carrier.
Most resort weeks involve 0–1 day off-resort. Resort Wi-Fi handles the rest. Best fit: single-country eSIM for that destination, not a regional pack. Dominican Republic single-country eSIMs sit at the low end of Caribbean per-GB, Jamaica and Aruba mid-range. A regional pack is overkill unless you take a day-trip ferry to another island. Tip: download offline maps for the resort area before arrival, the resort Wi-Fi covers everything else.
Inter-island ferries or short flights. aloSIM Caribbean does NOT cover these islands — aloSIM splits the French West Indies into a separate pack at notably higher per-GB rates. Best fits: Airalo Caribbean Islands (3GB/7-day tier) or Saily Caribbean Islands (3GB/30-day tier) — both include all three French islands. EU residents on French territory can also use their domestic French operator under the EU Roam Like at Home zone in Martinique and Guadeloupe (both are RUPs) — verify your French operator's roaming policy first.
Sailing or ferry-hopping through the Leeward Islands. Best fit: Airalo or Saily Caribbean Islands at the 5GB/30-days tier ($30–34). Both cover all four islands. Roamless Caribbean is the wrong product here: it excludes USVI. aloSIM works for BVI + USVI + Anguilla but not Saint Martin (French side). Coverage on the ground: Digicel and Flow dominate; signal is good in ports and town centres, patchy on remote anchorages and beaches.
If your itinerary includes Cuba in addition to other islands, you need two eSIMs: a Caribbean regional pack for the other islands, plus an Airalo single-country Cuba eSIM for Cuba (Airalo is the only major provider with a Cuba product). No regional pack on the market covers Cuba. On the ground in Cuba, ETECSA is the only carrier; speeds are limited (3G/4G in major cities, often slow); Wi-Fi at hotels and parks is the common alternative. Arrival protocol — multi-island specifics
VPN, passwords and documents
There are no major internet restrictions in most Caribbean countries, but a VPN is genuinely useful in this region for two reasons: (1) Cruise ship Wi-Fi and hotel public Wi-Fi are notoriously unsecured — captive-portal networks expose your traffic to anyone on the same network; (2) Cuba has occasional content blocking through state-controlled ETECSA — a VPN helps access blocked services. A password manager is useful for accessing banking and travel insurance accounts on the move — a multi-island trip multiplies the password resets if you lose access. Cruise passengers should keep a secure cloud backup of passport, vaccination certificates and travel insurance documents — paper backups are vulnerable to humidity and lost luggage.
