How much will it cost for your trip?
Caracas and major cities have functional 4G on Movistar and Digitel, though quality varies due to infrastructure underinvestment. Mérida, Puerto La Cruz and Porlamar (Margarita Island) have reasonable signal. Rural areas and the llanos plains have very limited coverage. eSIM — Venezuela
Network coverage in Venezuela
Venezuela has three mobile operators: Movistar (strongest urban coverage), Digitel (strong urban and central regions) and Movilnet (widest rural reach). For Caracas, Isla Margarita (Porlamar), Mérida, Puerto La Cruz and Los Roques, both Movistar and Digitel deliver functional 4G. 5G spectrum was awarded in 2025 and limited deployment is underway; most of the country remains on 4G.
Infrastructure underinvestment affects quality across all operators outside major cities, and Digitel's coverage drops sharply south of the central regions — don't count on a signal toward Canaima or the Guiana Highlands. On this page, aloSIM, Saily and Yesim do not clearly disclose their Venezuelan carrier; since Digitel and Movistar are the more reliable networks for travel eSIMs (state-owned Movilnet is weaker), verify the network before relying on it beyond the main cities.
For rural areas, the llanos and destinations beyond main cities, see the field tip above for coverage expectations.

VPN, passwords and documents
On hotel or café Wi-Fi, a VPN can be useful to keep your browsing private from the network operator. A password manager is also worth having for managing account access on the road. A secure cloud backup of your passport, visa and accommodation details can also be useful — keep an offline copy too. None of these are mandatory.
