aloSIM review: regional packs specialist for multi-country trips
aloSIM covers 200+ countries with strong regional packs (Asia 13 countries, Europe 35, North America 3, Central America 7, Global 147). Note: aloSIM does not offer a South America pack. Unlimited plans available on select destinations. Canadian-origin company. Optional Hushed virtual number addon for SMS — but data-only as the core product. Best fit for travellers crossing multiple borders within one region.

aloSIM's clearest differentiator is its regional pack offering. Where Airalo and Saily focus primarily on single-country plans, aloSIM packages multi-country bundles by region — Asia (13 countries under one eSIM), Europe (35), North America (USA + Canada + Mexico), Central America (7 countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama), plus Global (147 countries). aloSIM does not offer a South America pack — for SA trips, see Airalo Latamlink or Saily Latin America. For multi-country trips within a region aloSIM does cover, this can be cheaper and simpler than buying separate plans.
Coverage spans 200+ countries when including all packs. Plans are available in fixed data tiers and, more recently, unlimited tiers on select destinations. Hotspot is unrestricted on most plans.
The main limits: regional pack pricing per GB is higher than buying a single-country plan if you only need one country. The optional Hushed virtual phone number addon ($3 free credit) is marketing-positioned as "calls and SMS" but the credit is quickly depleted and is best understood as a brief receive-SMS bonus, not a true voice plan.
Before paying: if you are visiting only one country, single-country plans from Airalo or Saily are typically cheaper. aloSIM's value comes from multi-country trips within a single regional pack.
Editorial assessment
Per-criterion scoring against the published review rating framework. Four criteria, scale 1–5 each, no aggregate score. Each score is justified factually below.
Regional packs across multiple regions
Asia (Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam — 13 countries; note India is not included), Europe (35 countries including UK, Switzerland, Turkey, Iceland), North America (USA + Canada + Mexico), Central America (Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama), Global (147 countries). Sub-regional packs also exist (Caribbean, British Isles, Scandinavia). aloSIM does not currently offer a South America pack — for SA trips, see our regional comparison page. For travellers crossing borders within a region aloSIM does cover, this is the core value proposition.
Unrestricted hotspot
No daily tethering cap on most plans. Useful for travellers tethering laptops in cafés, sharing data with travel companions, or running an RV setup.
Auto-switching across borders
A regional pack auto-connects to local network partners as you cross borders. No need to reinstall the eSIM, no manual network selection in 99% of cases.
App rating and customer support
aloSIM has a strong app rating (4.6/5 across App Store and Google Play) with 1M+ users. Customer support is available 24/7 via in-app chat — useful when troubleshooting at midnight in a foreign country.
Single-country pricing
If you only visit one country, aloSIM single-country plans are typically more expensive than equivalent plans from Airalo or Saily. The regional pack value disappears for single-country trips.
Unlimited fair use is restrictive
aloSIM unlimited plans cap full speed at approximately 1.5 GB/day before throttling to ~512 kbps. Saily unlimited gives 5 GB/day at full speed. For heavy data users, aloSIM's unlimited tier is the most restrictive of the major providers.
Hushed addon is marketing, not a voice plan
aloSIM markets the Hushed virtual phone number as "Calls and Texting" but it is a separate addon with a limited free credit ($3) that depletes quickly. Per-message and per-minute charges apply beyond the free credit. Useful for receiving an occasional 2FA SMS, not for sustained voice use. If you need true voice/SMS on a travel eSIM, Yesim's virtual number model is more transparent.
App blocked at network level in Turkey
Like Airalo and Saily, aloSIM is blocked at the network level in Turkey by regulator BTK since 10 July 2025 (decision E-98966759-450.08-36681). A pre-installed eSIM continues to work normally, but you cannot purchase, activate or top up from inside Turkey without a VPN. The Europe pack — which lists Turkey as a covered country — works there only if the eSIM is installed and activated before arrival. Set up before departure for any Turkey trip.
No no-expiry credit
Plans have validity windows (typically 7-30 days, up to 180 for some Global tiers). Unused data expires. For frequent travellers wanting flexibility across multiple trips, Roamless Flex (no-expiry credit) is structurally better.
Regional pack country lists are not always intuitive. The Asia pack covers 13 specific countries — not all of Asia. India, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan are NOT in the Asia pack. The Europe pack excludes Albania, Kosovo, Moldova. Before purchasing, check the explicit list of countries on the aloSIM page for your chosen pack and cross-reference with your itinerary. If a country on your route is not covered, plan for a backup local SIM at the border or a separate single-country eSIM.
aloSIM is the right choice when your trip crosses multiple borders within a region. The regional pack model genuinely simplifies multi-country travel — single eSIM, single app, single bill. For single-country trips or for use cases where another provider's specific strengths matter more (unlimited fair use, no-expiry credit, true voice line), other providers fit better. Verify pack coverage for your specific destinations before purchasing.
