How much will it cost for your trip?
The coastal resort strip (Kololi, Senegambia, Kotu), Banjul and Serrekunda have good 4G on Africell. River excursions upriver to Tendaba, Janjanbureh (Georgetown) and the eastern Gambia have patchy or no signal. Download offline maps and bird identification apps before any river trip.
Abuko Nature Reserve and Bijilo Forest Park (near the coast) have good signal. River lodges and camps in the eastern Gambia operate without reliable mobile coverage. Download offline birding guides (eBird offline checklists work well) before any inland or river excursion.

Four mobile operators serve The Gambia: Africell (dominant, strongest 4G coverage), QCell (second operator, good 4G in main areas), Comium and Gamcel (both marginal — not recommended for travel). Africell and QCell together cover the tourist areas: Banjul, the Senegambia strip, Bakau, Kololi and the river towns of Brikama and Farafenni.
Commercial 5G is live in the Greater Banjul area (QCell since 2023, Africell since 2024), but travel eSIMs currently connect at 4G. Coverage beyond the Atlantic coast and main highway corridors is limited on all operators.
