Lebanon has been in severe economic crisis since 2019, with periodic political instability and security concerns. Beirut, the Kadisha Valley, Byblos, Baalbek and the main tourism circuit have remained accessible, but conditions are variable. Most Western governments advise heightened caution, particularly near the southern border with Israel and Hezbollah-controlled areas. USD cash is essential — Lebanese Pounds are practically unusable for tourist transactions. Install before departure.
Lebanon suffers from frequent power cuts (often 3–12 hours daily even in Beirut), which can make hotel Wi-Fi unreliable. Pre-install your eSIM before arriving so you have mobile data independent of hotel power. 4G mobile networks generally maintain service during power outages via generator backup at cell towers. Alfa has the widest coverage including mountain areas (Bcharre, Faraya ski resort).

Network coverage in Lebanon
Lebanon has two state-owned mobile operators: touch and Alfa. Both operate on 4G with near-nationwide coverage. No commercial 5G is available. For Beirut, Byblos, Sidon, Tyre, Baalbek, Jounieh and the Bekaa Valley, both operators provide solid 4G. Coverage in the Akkar mountains and remote highland areas can be patchy. Infrastructure damage in parts of southern Lebanon has affected network quality; restoration was ongoing through 2025.
