Mistakes to avoid in the USA
Not downloading offline maps before national parks or rural drives. Dead zones in and around national parks are extensive. Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Yosemite and many others have no coverage in large portions. Download everything in the nearest city before leaving.
Assuming one network covers everything. T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon each have gaps in rural areas. For maximum rural reach, providers with dual-network routing (T-Mobile + Verizon, or T-Mobile + AT&T) have a meaningful advantage over single-network options.
Leaving data roaming on your home SIM. Background apps generate charges. Disable roaming on the home SIM once the eSIM is active.
Taking too small a plan for a road trip. Navigation, map downloads, music streaming and hotspot use in a rental car consume more data than expected over multi-week itineraries.
