Bermuda has excellent 4G across the entire archipelago and 5G in Hamilton and main population centres. One Communications was first to commercial 5G in November 2023 (Ericsson partner; ~75% island "5G-ready" at launch); Digicel switched on 5G+ island-wide in July 2025; Paradise Mobile launched as a 5G-first operator in 2023–2024 and won Ookla's "Fastest 5G in Bermuda" Q3–Q4 2024. The Railway Trail and South Shore have good 4G/5G; offshore at sea, signal drops — download marine charts before any boat trip.

Network coverage in Bermuda

Bermuda has three mobile operators: One Communications (incumbent, largest 4G/5G footprint), Digicel Bermuda (launched 5G island-wide in July 2025), and Paradise Mobile (5G-first new entrant). All three cover the 53 km² archipelago well with 4G; 5G is concentrated in Hamilton and main population centres. For a typical itinerary — Hamilton, St George, South Shore beaches (Horseshoe Bay, Warwick Long Bay), Dockyard — all three perform reliably.

Offshore at sea, signal drops within a few nautical miles on all operators. Provider routing on this page: Airalo routes via One Communications or Digicel at 4G/LTE. Roamless, Saily and Yesim do not publicly disclose their Bermudian carrier — every roaming partner connects through one of the three operators.

Arrival protocol in Bermuda

Before departure from home
Check your phone supports eSIM — dial *#06#, look for an EID number.
Install the eSIM before your flight — activation is automatic on landing at L.F. Wade International (BDA).
Save QR code and setup instructions offline.
Download offline maps for the Railway Trail, South Shore road and any planned ferry/boat route.
Keep home SIM active for calls and SMS.
After landing at L.F. Wade International
Go to Settings → Mobile data → select the eSIM as your data line.
Turn off data roaming on your home SIM.
Test with a page load. If nothing loads, toggle airplane mode for 30 seconds or manually select One Communications, Digicel or Paradise.
Do not delete the eSIM if it does not connect immediately — check settings first.
Local prepaid SIMs require passport ID at One Comm or Digicel stores; expect a US$0.40/day Government Licence Fee on every plan. A travel eSIM avoids both.

VPN, passwords and documents

On hotel or café Wi-Fi, a VPN can be useful to keep your browsing private from the network operator. A password manager is also worth having for managing account access on the road. A secure cloud backup of your passport, visa and accommodation details can also be useful — keep an offline copy too. None of these are mandatory.

Mistakes to avoid in Bermuda

Assuming your home SIM works at home rates here. No roaming agreement covers Bermuda — British Overseas Territory status included — so every foreign SIM pays international roaming.
Counting on signal offshore. Signal drops within a few nautical miles of the coast on all three networks — download marine charts and emergency contacts ashore, and keep VHF as the primary maritime channel.
Buying a local prepaid SIM for a short stay. Local plans add a daily government licence fee and in-store passport registration — for trips under two weeks, a travel eSIM is materially cheaper and faster.
Expecting 5G on every travel eSIM. Commercial 5G is live on all three local networks, but travel eSIM access depends on the roaming partner — verify with the provider before relying on 5G.
