Moroni (Grande Comore) has basic 4G on Comores Telecom. The Karthala volcano (2,361m) approach has limited signal below the caldera — the summit is offline. Mohéli (the smallest island, best for marine turtle conservation and diving) has very limited coverage in Fomboni. Anjouan has basic coverage in Mutsamudu. The Comoros is a challenging destination logistically — inter-island transport is by unreliable ferry or light aircraft. The Comoros archipelago is served by two operators: Comores Telecom (branded Huri) and Telma Comores (branded Yas Comoros). For a typical itinerary covering the three main islands — Grande Comore (Moroni, Mount Karthala area), Anjouan (Mutsamudu), Mohéli (Fomboni) — both operators provide 4G in the populated zones. The regulator (ANRTIC) has assigned 5G spectrum to both operators and rollout began in 2025–26, but coverage remains very limited.
Practitioner sources report that Telma has a slightly wider network footprint and better internet quality, while Comores Telecom is cheaper and more widespread by subscription count. A historical note: Comores Telecom blocked VoIP (Skype, WhatsApp calling) for years, which Telma never enforced; that block appears to have ended with competition, but verify if voice/video over data is essential. Travel eSIM availability for Comoros is limited compared with mainland East Africa — verify provider coverage before relying on it. Coverage between islands relies on ferry-line links; inter-island connectivity drops while at sea.
