Cyprus is covered by EU Roam Like at Home — check your fair-use cap before buying a travel eSIM. One structural limit applies: Northern Cyprus operates on Turkish networks and is not covered by any standard Cyprus eSIM.

Field tip — Check your EU/EEA fair-use policy
EU Roam Like at Home rules apply in the Republic of Cyprus. Most EU SIM cards will cover you within their fair-use policy for a typical short Cyprus trip (4–7 days of moderate use). For longer stays, digital nomad usage or heavy streaming, check your carrier's FUP cap and any extra-charge threshold above which roaming becomes billed.
Field tip — Northern Cyprus needs a separate eSIM
Cyprus is politically divided. The Republic of Cyprus (EU member, covered by this guide) controls the south; the northern part is administered separately and runs on Turkish carriers such as Turkcell and Telsim. Standard Cyprus eSIMs cover the south only. If your itinerary crosses the UN buffer zone into the north, expect your Cyprus eSIM to stop working there and budget for a separate connectivity option.
Coverage notes cross-referenced from multiple independent sources.
Prepaid tiers (1–30 GB, 30-day validity) and unlimited tiers. The 30 GB/30-day tier works out to $0.76/GB. 7-day unlimited at $14.40. Carrier not disclosed.
Four mobile network operators serve the Republic of Cyprus: Cyta (dominant incumbent, widest national coverage), Epic, PrimeTel and Cablenet. 4G is reliable in Nicosia, Limassol, Paphos, Larnaca and coastal resorts; mountain villages (Troodos, Akamas Peninsula) can be patchier on any network. 5G covers most of the population. Northern Cyprus runs on Turkish carriers and is not covered by standard Republic of Cyprus eSIMs — see the field tip above.
Provider routing: Airalo routes via Cyta at 4G. Roamless, aloSIM, Saily and Yesim do not publicly confirm their Cypriot carrier. Travel eSIM providers on this page route via one of the four operators — routing varies by provider; check each provider card.

Coming from another region→Check your carrier rates first — eSIM is usually cheaper than per-MB roaming
Arrival protocol in Cyprus
Before departure from home
Check your carrier's Cyprus roaming terms— EU RLAH applies.
Check your phone supports eSIM — dial *#06#, look for an EID number.
Install the eSIM at home before departure.
Keep home SIM active for calls and SMS.
After landing in Cyprus
Go to Settings → Mobile data → select the eSIM as your data line.
Turn off data roaming on your home SIM.
Test with a page load — toggle airplane mode if nothing connects.
VPN, passwords and documents
Cyprus has no internet restrictions — a VPN is not required for standard use. On hotel or café Wi-Fi, a VPN is useful for banking or work. Cyprus uses the Euro (joined Eurozone 2008). Keep a secure backup of your passport and accommodation bookings.
Mistakes to avoid in Cyprus
Buying a Cyprus eSIM expecting it to work in Northern Cyprus. The northern part runs on Turkish carriers; standard Cyprus eSIMs cover the Republic only.
Buying a travel eSIM without checking your home carrier first. If your SIM is from any EU or EEA country, you already get home-rate data in Cyprus — a travel eSIM may be unnecessary. Foreign SIMs from outside the EU/EEA do incur standard roaming and benefit from a travel eSIM.
Leaving data roaming on a non-EU/EEA home SIM. Background apps will generate charges. The EU Roam Like at Home framework only applies to SIMs from EU and EEA member states.
Deleting the eSIM if it does not connect immediately. Check settings first.
Yes for SIMs from EU/EEA member states. Cyprus joined the EU in 2004 and EU Roam Like at Home applies in the Republic of Cyprus, so any EU or EEA SIM works at home rates. SIMs from anywhere else (US, UK, Russia, Asia, etc.) are charged international roaming and benefit from a travel eSIM. Cyprus is not part of the Schengen Area — passport control applies on some EU flight routes. Travellers crossing into Northern Cyprus should expect a separate set of Turkish carriers and rates, since EU roaming rules do not extend there.
Which network is best for travel in Cyprus?
Four operators serve the Republic: Cyta (incumbent, widest national coverage), Epic (formerly MTN Cyprus, rebranded 2019), PrimeTel and Cablenet. 4G is reliable in Nicosia, Limassol, Paphos, Larnaca and coastal resorts. Troodos mountain villages and the remote Akamas Peninsula can be patchier regardless of operator. For any standard south-of-the-line itinerary, all four networks deliver usable performance.
