Nadi (international airport), Suva and all Coral Coast resorts have strong 4G. The Mamanuca Islands (Castaway, Malolo) and Yasawa Islands have basic Vodafone signal at main resorts. Remote outer islands and live-aboard dive boats have no coverage. Download offline maps and island-hopping ferry timetables before departing Nadi.

Vodafone Fiji covers all main tourist areas on Viti Levu. The Mamanuca and Yasawa chains have signal at resort islands. The Lau Group and remote eastern islands have very limited or no coverage. Snorkelling and diving sites offshore are completely offline. A travel eSIM is the most cost-effective option for international visitors — local Fijian SIMs require passport registration.

Network coverage in Fiji

Fiji has two operators relevant to travellers: Vodafone Fiji (market leader, broadest coverage including 4G in virtually every major city and town on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu) and Digicel Fiji (strong on main islands, competitive pricing). For Nadi, Suva, the Coral Coast, the Mamanuca Islands and the Yasawa archipelago, both operators provide reliable 4G. Commercial 5G launched in September 2025: Vodafone and Digicel both cover Suva, Nadi, Lautoka and Denarau, expanding to more towns through 2026.

On outer islands, coverage depends on operator infrastructure — some remote Yasawa or Lau islands have no 4G signal from either operator. Travel eSIM providers on this page route via Vodafone Fiji or Digicel — check the carrier listed on each provider card. Vodafone-routed eSIMs give the broadest island coverage.

Arrival protocol in Fiji

Before departure from home
Check your phone supports eSIM — dial *#06#, look for an EID number.
Install the eSIM before your flight — activation may require connectivity that is no longer available abroad.
Save the QR code and setup instructions offline (screenshots or PDF).
Download offline maps for your destinations before you leave.
After landing in Fiji
Go to Settings → Mobile data → select the eSIM as your data line.
Turn off data roaming on your home SIM to avoid background charges.
Test with a page load. If nothing loads, toggle airplane mode for 30 seconds and try again before deleting the profile.

VPN, passwords and documents

On hotel or café Wi-Fi, a VPN can be useful to keep your browsing private from the network operator. A password manager is also worth having for managing account access on the road. A secure cloud backup of your passport, visa and accommodation details can also be useful — keep an offline copy too. None of these are mandatory.
