The security situation in Israel and the surrounding region has been significantly elevated since October 2023. Most Western governments have issued travel advisories — check your government's current advisory before booking. Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and the Dead Sea area have remained accessible to tourists, but conditions can change rapidly. Install your eSIM before departure. Network coverage in tourist areas is excellent on all four operators.

Field tip — eSIM VoIP is restricted; standard data works

Israel has no internet restrictions for standard data use — Google, social media and messaging apps work normally. VoIP calls via WhatsApp and FaceTime work over data. Israeli border control may check phone contents; back up and consider a clean device if privacy is a concern. Pre-install your eSIM before arrival — no eSIM kiosks at Ben Gurion Airport for international providers.

Network coverage in Israel

Israel has four mobile operators: Pelephone, Cellcom, Partner Communications and HOT Mobile. 2G and 3G networks have been shut down nationally — 4G and 5G only. For a typical itinerary — Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, the Dead Sea, the Galilee, Eilat — all four operators deliver reliable 4G/5G in cities and main tourist corridors. Coverage drops in the Negev desert interior and remote border zones.

None of the providers on this page disclose a confirmed Israeli carrier. Airalo’s Israel plan runs on Annatel, a local reseller network whose host operator it does not specify; aloSIM, Saily, Roamless and Yesim likewise do not state which of the four operators they use. Arrival protocol in Israel

Before departure from home
Check your phone supports eSIM — dial *#06#, look for an EID number.
Install the eSIM before your flight — activation may require connectivity that is no longer available abroad.
Save the QR code and setup instructions offline (screenshots or PDF).
Download offline maps for your destinations before you leave.
After landing in Israel
Go to Settings → Mobile data → select the eSIM as your data line.
Turn off data roaming on your home SIM to avoid background charges.
Test with a page load. If nothing loads, toggle airplane mode for 30 seconds and try again before deleting the profile.

VPN, passwords and documents

On hotel or café Wi-Fi, a VPN can be useful to keep your browsing private from the network operator. A password manager is also worth having for managing account access on the road. A secure cloud backup of your passport, visa and accommodation details can also be useful — keep an offline copy too. None of these are mandatory.

Mistakes to avoid in Israel
