Field tip — Check your EU/EEA fair-use policy
EU Roam Like at Home rules apply in Lithuania. For a Vilnius + Hill of Crosses itinerary or a Curonian Spit road trip, your EU SIM will easily cover you within the FUP. For longer stays, digital-nomad usage or heavy streaming, check your carrier's FUP cap and any extra-charge threshold above which roaming becomes billed.
Field tip — Download offline maps for the Curonian Spit national park before the ferry crossing
Coverage is strong throughout Vilnius, Kaunas and along all main roads including the Via Baltica. The Curonian Spit — a UNESCO World Heritage site shared with Russia — has good coverage in Nida and Juodkrantė but signal can drop in the dune areas and pine forest interior. Download offline maps before crossing from Klaipėda. Also download maps for Aukštaitija National Park lakes and trails where forest cover reduces signal.
Coverage notes cross-referenced from multiple independent sources.
Prepaid tiers (1–30 GB, 30-day validity) and unlimited tiers. The 30 GB/30-day tier works out to $1.00/GB. 7-day unlimited at $28.80. Carrier not disclosed.
Three mobile operators serve Lithuania: Tele2 Lithuania (largest by subscribers), Telia Lithuania (first to launch 5G, strong urban coverage) and Bitė Lithuania. All three cover ~99% of the population on 4G, with 5G live in Vilnius, Kaunas and other major cities. Coverage is reliable in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and along the Via Baltica.
Among the providers on this page, Airalo routes via Tele2 and Telia. Roamless routes via Tele2, Telia and Bitė. aloSIM, Saily and Yesim do not disclose their Lithuanian carrier. All three networks deliver strong 4G nationwide and 5G in the main cities. For specific dead zones on the Curonian Spit and in the Aukštaitija lake region, see the field tip above.

Keep home SIM active for calls and SMS.

Turn off data roaming on your home SIM.
Test with a page load — toggle airplane mode if nothing connects.
VPN, passwords and documents

Mistakes to avoid in Lithuania
Buying an eSIM without checking your home carrier first. If you have an EU SIM, Roam Like at Home applies in Lithuania and a travel eSIM may be unnecessary.
Leaving data roaming on your home SIM. Background apps will generate charges if your carrier is not on EU RLAH.
Not downloading offline maps before the Curonian Spit dunes or Aukštaitija lakes. Signal can drop in the pine-forest interior and inside the dune zones.
Deleting the eSIM if it does not connect immediately. Check settings first.
Yes. Lithuania is an EU member, so EU Roam Like at Home applies to EU/EEA SIM cards. You can use an EU/EEA SIM in Lithuania at no extra charge, subject to your carrier's fair-use policy. Lithuania adopted the Euro in 2015. Non-EU visitors face standard international roaming and typically find a travel eSIM cheaper for anything beyond a 1–2 day stopover.
Which network is best for travel in Lithuania?
Lithuania has three mobile operators: Tele2 Lithuania (~2.5M customers per esimlithuania.net, widest rural footprint including the Curonian Spit), Telia Lithuania (~1.8M customers, formerly Omnitel — rebranded in 2017 — first to launch 5G in 2022 with 95% population coverage by March 2023) and Bitė Lithuania (~1.5M customers, launched 5G in February 2023). All three deliver excellent coverage in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda. For the Curonian Spit and rural Aukštaitija, Tele2 historically has the widest footprint, with Telia close behind.
