Maputo has strong 4G. Tofo beach, Inhambane and the Bazaruto Archipelago have basic signal in main resort areas. The Quirimbas Archipelago (far north) has very limited signal — most lodges operate on satellite Wi-Fi. Cabo Delgado province (Pemba, Mocímboa da Praia area) has experienced significant insecurity since 2017 — check your government's current travel advisory before visiting the far north.
Bazaruto island has basic Vodacom signal at the main lodges. Inter-island ferry transfers have no coverage. The Quirimbas lodges (Vamizi, Matemo, Medjumbe) use satellite Wi-Fi — your travel eSIM is mainly useful for Maputo, Tofo and transit days. Download offline maps before any coastal island transfer.

Mozambique has three mobile operators: Vodacom Mozambique, Movitel, and Tmcel. Vodacom has the strongest urban and coastal coverage and leads on network quality; Movitel has overtaken Vodacom in subscriber count and has the wider rural reach. Vodacom has live 5G in Maputo and several major cities; Movitel and Tmcel remain 4G. For Maputo, Tofo, Inhambane, Vilankulo and the Bazaruto Archipelago, Vodacom offers the most reliable connection.
Movitel has the wider rural reach for inland routes toward Gorongosa or Niassa, but the travel eSIMs on this page run on Vodacom — Airalo via Vodacom Mozambique, Saily, aloSIM, Roamless and Yesim undisclosed — and are often capped at 3G or low-end 4G, fine for town maps and messaging but not streaming.
