How much will it cost for your trip?
Arusha (safari hub), Dar es Salaam, Moshi and Zanzibar Stone Town have excellent 4G. The Ngorongoro Crater rim lodges have signal. Main Serengeti camps have basic signal at lodge areas. Kilimanjaro summit (Uhuru Peak, 5,895m) and routes above 4,000m have no reliable coverage. Zanzibar beaches (Nungwi, Kendwa, Paje) have good coverage. Selous/Nyerere and Ruaha are more remote.
Serengeti game drives on the open plains have variable coverage depending on location and camp proximity. Download offline safari maps and bird/mammal identification apps in Arusha before entering the Serengeti or Ngorongoro. For Kilimanjaro trekking (Marangu, Machame, Lemosho routes), download route maps and altitude profiles in Moshi before departure.

Network coverage in Tanzania
Four major networks operate in Tanzania: Vodacom, Yas (formerly Tigo), Airtel and Halotel. For a typical itinerary — Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Moshi, Zanzibar Stone Town, Serengeti, Ngorongoro — all four perform well with 4G in cities and main tourist hubs; Vodacom and Airtel also offer partial 5G.
Outside the cities, Vodacom has the widest reach — strongest around Lake Victoria and across national park corridors. Airtel has expanded its rural 4G footprint aggressively and is a solid second. Halotel built towers in rural areas where the top three had thin coverage, making it the better option for remote lake-region or off-grid itineraries. Yas is the strongest urban competitor but trails in rural depth. Zanzibar (Unguja) is covered by the mainland networks; Pemba has more limited coverage outside its main towns.
