How much will it cost for your trip?
Tunis, Sousse, Sfax, Monastir and all main Mediterranean coastal areas have excellent 4G. The Saharan interior — Douz (gateway to the Sahara), Ksar Ghilane oasis, Tataouine (Star Wars filming locations) — has basic signal in towns. The Grand Erg Oriental sand dunes have no coverage. Download offline maps before any desert excursion.
Tataouine town has basic 4G. The Ksour (fortified granaries) and Matmata underground Berber homes have limited signal nearby. For the Grand Erg Oriental and any overnight desert camp, download offline maps in Douz before departure. The Chott el-Djerid salt lake is largely offline.

Three mobile operators serve Tunisia: Ooredoo Tunisia, Tunisie Telecom and Orange Tunisie. All three launched commercial 5G in early 2025; coverage is currently concentrated in Tunis and major cities. For a typical itinerary — Tunis, Carthage, Sidi Bou Saïd, Sousse, Hammamet, Monastir, Djerba, Sfax, Kairouan, the Saharan south (Tozeur, Douz, Tataouine) — all three deliver reliable 4G in cities and main tourist corridors.
Tunisie Telecom and Orange Tunisie lead on independent network quality benchmarks; Ooredoo Tunisia leads on market share. On this page, Airalo connects via Ooredoo and Orange (good for cities and the coast), Yesim switches across all three networks including Tunisie Telecom — the widest rural network — and aloSIM does not name its carrier. For the Saharan south, Yesim is the stronger pool choice.
