Field tip — Gibraltar is British post-Brexit — EU RLAH does not apply

Gibraltar left the EU with the UK in 2021. Most EU carriers charge roaming fees for Gibraltar. UK SIM card holders may find Gibraltar is included in their plan's roaming allowance — check your UK carrier's Gibraltar terms. A travel eSIM with UK or Europe coverage often includes Gibraltar.

Field tip — Gibraltar is tiny (6.7 km²); one eSIM plan covers everything

Coverage is excellent throughout Gibraltar — the Rock, the cable car route, Catalan Bay and Europa Point all have strong 4G. The compactness of Gibraltar means any plan covers the entire territory. Visitors on day trips from Spain should verify their eSIM activates in Gibraltar specifically (separate from Spain).

Network coverage in Gibraltar

Gibtelecom is the sole mobile operator in Gibraltar (6.8 km²). 5G launched in June 2021, available to all customers at no extra cost. 4G and 5G coverage is near-universal across the territory — town centre, Main Street, Casemates Square, Ocean Village, the airport and the border crossing. The Upper Rock Nature Reserve has some reduced signal in tunnels and rock folds, but trails and viewpoints remain covered. Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory and is not in the EU post-Brexit; EU Roam Like Home has no formal legal basis here, though Gibtelecom itself offers RLAH in the UK and EEA for its customers. Some European operators have grouped Gibraltar with the UK rather than the EU for roaming — verify your plan before crossing from Spain.

Spanish network signals (Movistar, Vodafone Spain) reach across the border; phones near the La Línea crossing may auto-select a Spanish operator. Set manual network selection to Gibtelecom on arrival. Travel eSIMs routing via Gibtelecom are widely available from Airalo, Saily and others.
