How much will it cost for your trip?
Tajikistan is not an EU member. EU RLAH does not apply. The Pamir Highway (M41) from Dushanbe to Khorog and onwards to Murghab passes through hundreds of kilometres with no mobile coverage on any network. Offline navigation, a satellite communicator and pre-downloaded maps are safety requirements, not optional extras. Also note: the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (Pamir region) requires a GBAO permit — obtain before entering.
Dushanbe has good 4G. Khorog (GBAO capital) has basic 4G in town. Between Dushanbe and Khorog and along the Pamir Highway — Rushon, Ishkashim, Murghab, Karakul — signal is extremely limited or absent. Wakhan Corridor has no signal. Download Maps.me (Tajikistan + Afghanistan border maps) and iOverlander app with Pamir waypoints before leaving Dushanbe. A Garmin inReach or similar satellite communicator is strongly recommended for Pamir crossings.

Tajikistan has three mobile operators: Tcell (Indigo Tajikistan — market leader, widest 4G coverage including Dushanbe, Khujand and the Fergana Valley corridor), Beeline TJ (VimpelCom — solid in Dushanbe and northern cities) and MegaFon TJ (urban-focused, limited mountain reach). For Dushanbe and Khujand, all operators deliver workable 4G. For the Pamir Highway (M41) and Gorno-Badakhshan — the primary overland trekking and touring route — coverage is extremely sparse on any operator; Tcell has the most relay towers along populated valley sections. 5G is not available.

On hotel or café Wi-Fi, a VPN can be useful to keep your browsing private from the network operator. A password manager is also worth having for managing account access on the road. A secure cloud backup of your passport, visa, insurance and accommodation details can also be useful — keep an offline copy too. None of these are mandatory.
