Network coverage in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico has three main mobile operators: Claro, Liberty Puerto Rico, and T-Mobile. All three operate commercial 5G. For a typical itinerary — San Juan, Ponce, Mayagüez, Rincón — all three deliver reliable 4G/5G.
Outside cities, Liberty has the widest island-wide coverage, making it the stronger choice for multi-region trips and coastal areas beyond the main urban centres. T-Mobile leads for 5G speed in urban zones. Claro is reliable across most of the island but weaker than Liberty in remote areas. On this page, Saily typically uses T-Mobile or Liberty depending on signal, while Roamless and Yesim do not disclose their Puerto Rico carrier. Note: most US postpaid plans include Puerto Rico at domestic rates — check your carrier before buying a travel eSIM.
For coverage in El Yunque and the karst region (Camuy, Arecibo), see the field tip above.

VPN, passwords and documents
On hotel or café Wi-Fi, a VPN can be useful to keep your browsing private from the network operator. A password manager is also worth having for managing account access on the road. A secure cloud backup of your passport, visa and accommodation details can also be useful — keep an offline copy too. None of these are mandatory.
